updated on April 21, 2025 by Olivier Dufeu
Colombia's health ministry declared a public health emergency owing to the circulation of yellow fever in several regions of the country.
In a statement, officials said that, since September 2024, the country has recorded 75 cases, 34 of them fatal. Cases have been reported in nine departments, though most are in Tolima, located in the Andean region in the west central part of the country.
Colombia government recommendations and new regulations:
Vaccination si now compulsory to visit the high risk parts of the country.
Vaccination is strongly recommended to everyone between the age of 9 months and 59 years old.
Those regulations might change anytime depending on the evolution of the situation.
As from today, the regulation is still unclear if vaccination will become compulsory to enter the country.
Nahbu’s statement and recommendations:
Most of the high risk areas are not parts of the country where we typically send our travelers, with the exception of Tayrona area and the Amazon.
Destinations as Bogotá, Medellin, Cartagena or the coffee region are not affected so far.
As a precaution, Nahbu strongly recommend all travelers coming to Colombia in the coming weeks to get vaccinated before coming. To be safe and in case regulations change without notice.
Travelers visiting the Amazon, los llanos or the Tayrona & Santa Marta areas must get vaccinated.
Travelers already vaccinated should bring their certificate with them.
Travelers who can’t or do not wish to be vaccinated should let us know in advance so we can monitor the situation.
The use of bug repellent during the trip is recommended.
