While the national park can become crowded during peak seasons, we are familiar with hidden gems beyond its borders that offer equally stunning landscapes with far fewer visitors.
The beach, while breathtakingly beautiful, possesses a wild character with powerful waves, making it an ideal spot for surfers, though perhaps not for a traditional beach getaway.
This destination is perfect for helicopter picnics and thrilling adventures, providing an experience that combines natural beauty with exhilarating activities.

Day 1

Upon arrival at Santa Marta airport (or via land transfer from Cartagena), you will be warmly welcomed by your local guide who will assist you in transferring to your hotel.
Spend your afternoon at leisure, either enjoying the amenities of the hotel, including the inviting swimming pool, or embark on a short hike in the lush nearby rainforest.
Depending on your accommodation, dinner is often served on-site, providing a perfect opportunity to savor local flavors.

Day 2

Prepare for a day of nature exploration and soft adventure. You may choose to paddle down the serene Don Diego River, embark on a hike to a stunning waterfall, engage in birdwatching, or take a surf lesson on the beautiful coastline.
After a day filled with activities, you will return to your hotel in the late afternoon, allowing time to relax and reflect on your adventures.

Day 3

Meet the indigenous communities residing in the Sierra Nevada, known for their reserved yet welcoming nature. We maintain a close working relationship with the Katanzama community, who graciously open the doors to their village in a respectful manner. This day offers a unique opportunity to gain insights into alternative worldviews and cultural practices.

Day 4

Possible Extension:

After spending a few nights by the ocean, consider extending your journey with a stay in the Sierra Nevada Mountains at Casa Oropendola, where you can immerse yourself in nature and tranquility.

Tayrona FAQ

Tayrona is a year round destination. Driest season is December to April. Some rains can be expected the rest of the year but nothing that refrains to enjoy the region.
From Bogotá, Medellin and the rest of the country:
- Nearest airport is Santa Marta (SMR) approximately 1h away.
- It has direct flights from Bogotá, Medellín, Bucaramanga and Panamá city with both Avianca and Latam airlines.
From Cartagena, there are no direct flights since both destinations are in the same area.
- A land transfer takes approximately 4h30 depending on where you are staying.
- Private charter planes between Cartagena and Santa Marta are available at a reasonable price.
- Helicopter transfers combined with a beach pic-nic and mountain expedition are also available.
